  1. For Acid3 scores that are listed as 100/100 , note that IE9 had an initial score of 95/100 but with a test update on September 2011 , the scores got increased to 100/100 by omitting some unnecessary requirements.
  2. IE9 passes both the Acid2 and Acid tests.
  3. Internet Explorer 9 has a HTML5 score of 128 points, compared with IE10's 335 and IE8's 43.

Features

  1. The UI was redesigned to give a more cleaner look and occupy less space.
  2. Performance improvements , including hardware acceleration.
  3. Security was further improved with the inclusion of application reputation.
  4. (For Windows 7) Webpages can now be pinned to the taskbar. When clicked , the back/forward button changes its colours to match the colour of the logo of the website and there is no Home button.
  5. Standards compliance was greatly improved , with IE9 the first version of IE to pass the Acid3 test as of September 2011.
  6. Download manager was introduced along with the ability to pause , resume or cancel downloads. This feature was previously found in Internet Explorer 6 in some Longhorn builds.
  7. Add on Manager was improved , now telling how many seconds each addon would take extra for each page to load. An automatic popup will appear on the bottom if it is more than the threshold(which can be set by the user).
  8. The New Tabs (about:tabs) now display the recently visited sites.

Mobile IE9

A version of IE9 designed for mobile devices was introduced for Windows Phone 7.
