Internet Explorer 6 is a web browser developed by Microsoft. It came installed with Windows XP and Server 2003 and was also availible for Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Millennium Edition and 98. Retail version was released on 27 August 2001. On 9 September 2002 IE 6.0 SP1 version showed up, and the IE 6.0 SP2 version was released on 25 August 2004.

Criticism

Due to the fact that Internet Explorer 6 has very poor support for Web Standards, and has been shipped with Windows XP, which is still the second most most widely used operating system (as of May 2014). So far, Web Developers have often criticized Microsoft and the Internet Explorer Development Team for making such a terrible web browser.

Neptune

Internet Explorer 6 was planned to be released along with Windows Neptune, but was released with Windows XP, as the program was scrapped. Attempting to install IE 6 on Neptune will cause corruption of several Windows components, including the new login screen. The latest IE version that can be safely installed on Neptune is IE 5.5 SP2.
