Google Chrome is a web browser by Google, initially released on the 2 September 2008 for Windows. It was based on the WebKit rendering engine, but Google forked it in 2013 to become the Blink engine. All variants of Chrome except for the iOS variant now use the Blink engine. The WebKit engine is still used in the iOS variant, due to restrictions in the App Store’s policies.

Usage

Since late 2009, Google Chrome has surpassed Safari in usage and became the third most used browser worldwide with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox in the lead. As of December 2010, the Google Chrome browser was used by 13.35% of the world.
