SYMPTOMS

When you try to open an FTP site by using a Web proxy in Windows Internet Explorer 7, you cannot open the FTP Web site. This behavior occurs if the Web site URL contains the following entry:

domain\username


You may be unable open the FTP site even after you replace the backslash (\) by using its URL-encoded form (%5c).

RESOLUTION

After you install this hotfix, you have to enable it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start [GRAPHIC: Start button], type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type FEATURE_ALLOW_REVERSE_SOLIDUS_IN_USERINFO_KB932562, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
  6. Type Iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
  7. Click Iexplore.exe.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  9. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  10. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
  11. Type Explorer.exe, and then press ENTER.
  12. Click Explorer.exe.
  13. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  14. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  15. On the File menu, click Exit.
  16. Restart the computer.
