SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft Encarta 2007 on a computer that is running the Japanese version of Windows Vista.
  • You try to view content in Encarta 2007 by using Panorama view. Or, you try to view interactive media in Encarta 2007.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Encarta 2007 stopped the operation.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the plug-in for Adobe Flash Player or for Adobe Shockwave Player is not installed in Windows Vista.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, install Adobe Flash Player or Adobe Shockwave Player.

To install Adobe Shockwave Player in Windows Vista, follow these steps.

Note To install Shockwave Player in Windows Vista, you must use an account that has administrator rights.

  1. Start a Web browser, such as Internet Explorer, and then visit the following Adobe Web site:
  2. In the "Solution" section of this Web site, click Get Adobe Shockwave Player.
  3. Click Open to start downloading the program. If you receive a security message, click Allow.
  4. After you download the program, double-click Shockwave_Installer_FullJ-Vista, and then click Run to run the Setup program.

    [GRAPHIC: User Account Control permission ] If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  5. If you are prompted to install the Google Toolbar together with Adobe Shockwave Player, click the appropriate option, and then click Next. Follow the remaining steps to install Adobe Shockwave Player.

Note The Web browser program may automatically start after the installation of Adobe Shockwave Player is complete. In this scenario, an unrecognizable message may appear in the Entertainment Registration dialog box. In this scenario, click the Close button to close the dialog box.
