APPLIES TO

  • Windows Vista Enterprise
  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Ultimate

SYMPTOMS

You are running Delphi Interbase 7 Server Professional Edition on a Windows Vista-based computer. In the Interbase Manager, when you click Server Properties or Guardian Properties, the properties dialog box is not displayed.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Interbase 7 Server is running as a service. Windows Vista disallows a service that is running in session 0 (the console session) from communicating with a program that is running in a user session.

Note When you use the default settings to install Interbase 7 Server, it is installed as a service.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must run the Interbase 7 Server as a program and not as a service. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall the Interbase 7 Server program in Windows Vista.
  2. Reinstall the Interbase 7 Server program. However, do not accept default settings when you reinstall the program.
  3. When you are presented with the option, click to clear the Run the Interbase server as a service on WindowsNT check box.
