A chart that is copied to a new worksheet continues to refer to the data on the original worksheet in Excel 2007

Article ID: 931377

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Excel 2007

SYMPTOMS

You try to copy a worksheet that contains a chart to a new worksheet in the same workbook in Microsoft Office Excel 2007. When you do this, the chart that was copied to the new worksheet continues to refer to the data on the original worksheet instead of to the data on the new worksheet.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the worksheet name is always included in the series references in a chart. When the worksheet is copied to a new worksheet, a worksheet name conflict occurs.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, copy the worksheet to a new workbook, re-name the worksheet, and then move it back to the original workbook.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
