SUMMARY

This article describes how to print to an Adobe PDF writer printer from Microsoft SoftGrid-enabled applications.

Note The information in the article assumes that you are running SoftGrid Client version 3.1.0.334 or a later version.

MORE INFORMATION

When you print to a locally installed Adobe PDF writer printer, the print spooler tries to access a registry value in the local registry that only exists within the virtual registry. To work around this behavior, you must create a registry value in the local registry to let the print spooler pass through to the virtual registry.

Create the passthrough registry value

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Softricity\SystemGuard\CurrentVersion\Overrides.
  3. Right-click Overrides, point to New, and then click String Value.
  4. For New Value #1, type VirtualRegistryPassthrough, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click VirtualRegistryPassthrough, and then click Modify.
  6. For Value data, type Software\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\6.0\PrinterJobControl, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.

Clear the print queue

If you still cannot print to a locally installed Adobe PDF writer printer after you add the registry value, follow these steps.

  1. In Control Panel, click Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right-click the Adobe PDF writer printer, and then click Open.
  3. If the print job is still in the queue, right-click the job, and then click Cancel.
  4. Close the printer window.
  5. Start Registry Editor.
  6. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\6.0\PrinterJobControl.
  7. Clear any failed print jobs that are listed under PrinterJobControl.
  8. Exit Registry Editor.

Reset the Settings.cp file

  1. Locate the %AppData% folder.
  2. Change the name of the Settings.cp file to settings.adobe.
