Microsoft Definition of "Revision"

Microsoft assigns a new revision number each time the contents of the shipping package change. For example, if a coupon is added or removed, the revision number changes. A change in the revision number does not relate to a change in the software version or the program code.

Microsoft Definition of "Version"

The version number is the number that the software displays when it runs on a computer. The version number changes when the software itself changes, which means the program is recompiled.
