Article Last Modified on 2/7/2007

APPLIES TO

  • PolicyMaker Software Update 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When you install an update on a computer that is running Desktop Standard PolicyMaker Software Update, an error message is logged in the Software Deployment Manager log file (Sdmcomp.log). This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • The update is for a Microsoft product.
  • The update requires that you restart your computer.

When this issue occurs, the Software Deployment Manager cancels the required restart for the updated Microsoft product.

Note You can view the error message in the Sdmcomp.log in the following folder:

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\AutoProf\SDM\Trace\

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Software Deployment Manager does not handle the error message correctly. Some updates for Microsoft products return an error message if a restart is required even though the installation was successful. Software Deployment Manager should restart the computer in this kind of situation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install an update for the PolicyMaker Software Update client. To obtain this update, visit the following Desktop Standard Web site:
