256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows registry

SYMPTOMS

When you close Microsoft SoftGrid-enabled Citrix seamless applications, the application sessions do not shut down completely.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because one of the following conditions is true:

  • The Sftdcc.exe program does not time out.
  • The SoftGrid Client is running in the notification area.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Resolution 1: The Sftdcc.exe program does not time out

This problem has been fixed in the latest release of the SoftGrid Client.

To help the Sftdcc.exe program shut down, modify the registry on the Citrix server. To do this, follow these steps.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

  1. On the Citrix server, start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Citrix\wfshell\TWI

    ].
  3. Right-click LogoffCheckSysModules, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type sftdcc.exe, and then click OK.

Note If multiple values exist, separate the values by using a comma. For example, use the following format:

    ctfmon.exe,sftdcc.exe

  5. Exit Registry Editor.

For more information about this registry key, see Citrix Knowledge Base article CTX891671. To view this article, search for Citrix Document ID "CTX891671" at the following Citrix Web site:

Resolution 2: The SoftGrid Client is running in the notification area

When the SoftGrid Client is running in the notification area, the sessions of a Citrix seamless application may not shut down completely.

To verify that the SoftGrid Client does not have the Always show the SoftGrid Client in the system tray option enabled, follow these steps:

  1. In Administrative Tools, open the SoftGrid Client Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in.
  2. Right-click SoftGrid on localhost, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Interface tab.
  4. Under Run Settings, verify that the Always show the SoftGrid Client in the system tray option is not selected.
  5. Click OK.

When the SoftGrid Client is upgraded from 3.x to 4.x, the AlwaysRun registry value is migrated to the TrayVisibility value. If the TrayVisibility value is set to 1, the SoftGrid Client runs in the notification area.

To verify the value of the TrayVisibility registry value, follow these steps.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Softricity\CurrentVersion\CustomSettings

    .
  3. If the TrayVisibility value does not exist, this method will not resolve the problem. If the TrayVisibility value exists, right-click TrayVisibility, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
  5. Exit Registry Editor.

This problem is a known issue and is currently being investigated to be addressed in a future release.
