SYMPTOMS
You cannot log on to Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 (Windows SBS). The "Personalizing settings for Internet Explorer" window remains indefinitely on the upper-left part of the screen.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when a Windows Internet Explorer 7 installation does not successfully finish.
Note Internet Explorer 7 may be installed automatically if Automatic Updates is enabled on your computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
- Connect to the Windows SBS server by using Remote Desktop Connection from a client computer.
- Log on to the Windows SBS server by using an account that has administrator permissions.
- Complete the Internet Explorer 7 configuration. For example, configure settings such as the phishing filter and the default search provider.
- Restart the Windows SBS server from the remote desktop session.
- Directly log on to the Windows SBS server.
