Note Before you follow the instructions in this article, make sure that you have a complete backup copy of the database that you can restore if a problem occurs.

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to manually remove Microsoft Office Accounting (MOA) 2007 and Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005.

To manually remove Microsoft Office Accounting 2007 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005, follow these steps.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

  1. Exit all programs.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.

    Note In Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  3. In the "Add or Remove Programs" window, click Microsoft Office Accounting 2007, and then click Change/Remove. In Windows Vista, click Uninstall.
  4. In the Microsoft Office Accounting 2007 Setup Wizard, click Remove, and then click Next.
  5. By default, the Microsoft Office Accounting 2007 check box and the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express (MSSMLBIZ) check box are selected for removal.
  6. Click Next, and then click Remove.
  7. Click to select the Microsoft Office Accounting 2007 Transaction Migration Update check box, and then click Remove. In Windows Vista, click Uninstall.
  8. Click to select the Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components check box, and then click Remove. In Windows Vista, click Uninstall.

    Note If you use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express for other programs, do not perform steps 9 through 11.
  9. Click to select the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client check box, and then click Remove. In Windows Vista, click Uninstall.
  10. Click to select the Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English) check box, and then click Remove. In Windows Vista, click Uninstall.
  11. Click to select the Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer check box, and then click Remove. In Windows Vista, click Uninstall.
  12. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents folder, and then delete the Shared Companies folder.

    Note In Windows Vista, locate the C:\Users\Public\Documents folder, and then delete the Shared Companies folder.
  13. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\user's name\My Documents folder, and then delete the Small Business Accounting folder.

    Note In Windows Vista, locate the C:\Users\user's name\Documents folder, and then delete the Small Business Accounting folder.
  14. Repeat step 13 for each user name.

    Note The Small Business Accounting folder may not exist.
  15. Locate the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business folder, and then delete the following folders:
    • The Small Business Accounting 2007 folder
    • The Small Business Accounting Addins folder
    • The Small Business Loader folder
  16. Locate the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder, and then locate the MSSQLX folder. Then, use one of the following procedures:
    • If you use Microsoft SQL Server only for Microsoft Office Accounting 2007, right-click the Microsoft SQL Server folder, and then click Delete.
    • If other programs use Microsoft SQL Server, or if you are not sure if other programs use Microsoft SQL Server, right-click the MSSQLX folder, and then click Delete.

      Note X is a placeholder for an actual numeric value.

      To determine which folder has to be deleted, follow these steps:
      1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

        Note In Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
      2. Locate the following registry subkey:

        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSMLBIZ\Setup

      3. In the right window pane, note the X value in the SQLPath registry entry. This value indicates the folder that you must delete.
  17. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

    Note In Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  18. Locate and then delete the following registry subkeys:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Small Business
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Small Business Management
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Small Business Accounting\2.0
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Small Business Accounting Addins
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Small Business Accounting\InstalledVersions
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSMLBIZ
