Article ID: 930263

Article Last Modified on 12/4/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Zune Digital Media Player
  • Zune 30GB Digital Media Player

SYMPTOMS

When you play audio content on your Zune 30 GB device, the sound or the interface pauses and resumes intermittently. If you press any buttons on the device during this state, those actions may not have any immediate effect. Instead, those actions may cause a series of commands to be sent to the device when the interface resumes normal operation.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when some or all of the audio files that you are playing were obtained from the Zune Marketplace. This was a known issue with the Zune 30GB.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Connect the Zune device to a computer that has the current Zune software installed, and then update the device to the current device software. For more information about how to update the software on a Zune device, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. If you continue to experience this issue after you update to the latest device software, the hard drive in the Zune device may be fragmented. To defragment the hard drive, erase the Zune, and then resync your content.
