INTRODUCTION

This article describes Microsoft support for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) storage for multipath I/O (MPIO).

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft will provide SAS storage support for MPIO to storage array vendors. This support will be provided for the following Windows operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2
  • Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2
  • Microsoft Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003

Microsoft released these operating systems before the SAS products were available. Therefore, the SAS products have not been tested during the development cycle of these operating systems. Microsoft reserves the right to provide support for emerging technologies after the release of an operating system at its discretion.

Note Microsoft will not provide SAS storage support for MPIO for Microsoft Windows 2000. The end of the Windows 2000 support life cycle has been announced. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

If you had planned to deploy SAS products together with Windows 2000, you should upgrade to a newer Windows operating system that has SAS support, or deploy other storage solutions.

Microsoft provides MPIO as a development kit to storage array vendors. Microsoft will only provide SAS storage support for MPIO for Windows operating systems starting with Windows Server 2003.
