SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a page that contains an ActiveX control in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, a blank page may open. You experience this problem even after you refresh the page or visit another Web page.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the hotfix version of the files in the latest cumulative security update for Internet Explorer 6. To obtain the latest cumulative security update for Internet Explorer 6, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Hotfix installation information

To enable this hotfix, enable the FEATURE_BLOCK_REENTRY_CLOSEDISPLAYTREE_KB929883 registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BLOCK_REENTRY_CLOSEDISPLAYTREE_KB929883

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
  4. Type Iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. Type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.
