New reply content is discarded when you reply to or forward an e-mail message in Exchange Server 2003

Article ID: 929872

Article Last Modified on 10/25/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you reply to or forward an e-mail message from a mailbox in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the new reply content that is added to the new e-mail message is not saved in the Drafts folder. Instead, this content is discarded. Additionally, you do not receive a warning message before this occurs.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • The mailbox is over its size limit.
  • The user is using Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access in Basic client mode.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, save the new reply content manually by clicking Save before you send the new e-mail message. When you do this, the new reply content is saved in the Drafts folder.

The code path does not check for the quota limit because the e-mail message is not actually sent.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook Web Access has been completely redesigned for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. This problem does not occur in Exchange Server 2007.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
