SYMPTOMS
In Windows Internet Explorer 7, you access a Web page that contains an ActiveX control. However, the ActiveX control is inactive. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You install a script debugger on the computer. For example, you install the Microsoft Script Debugger.
- In Internet Explorer, you clear the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) check box in the Browsing area on the Advanced tab in Internet Options.
Note An inactive ActiveX control will not respond to user interaction.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if Internet Explorer does not correctly evaluate the changes that you make to the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) setting.
RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, verify that the Disable script debugging setting is enabled in Internet Explorer 7.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Steps to reproduce the problem
- Start Internet Explorer 7.
- Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
- On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) check box.
- Install a script debugger. To download the Microsoft Script Debugger that is compatible with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and later versions of the Windows operating system, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Visit a Web site that has ActiveX controls that are automatically enabled. For example, visit the following MSN Web site that uses ActiveX controls that are automatically enabled:
- Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
- Click OK.
