  • Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition
  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition

SYMPTOMS

In Windows Vista, when you try to use the Create CD/DVD feature in Media Center to create a slide show on a DVD or to create a video DVD, the computer stops responding. Or, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Low Disk Space

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the computer's hard disk has insufficient free space. The Create CD/DVD feature requires up to 6 gigabytes (GB) of free space to create temporary files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, make sure that the hard disk has at least 6 GB of free space before you use the Create CD/DVD feature to create a DVD.

To determine how much space is available on the hard disk drive, click Start[GRAPHIC: the Start button], click Computer, and then point to the hard disk. The total disk capacity and the free space will appear on a tooltip.

To free more space, use the Disk Cleanup utility. Disk Cleanup lists all the temporary files, the Internet cache files, and the unnecessary program files that you can delete. You can direct Disk Cleanup to delete some or all these files. To use Disk Cleanup, click Start[GRAPHIC: the Start button], type disk cleanup in the Start Search box, and then click Disk Cleanup in the Programs list.
