SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You post chunked HTTP POST data to a remoting server in Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. In this scenario, you may receive the following exception error message:

System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: HTTP chunked encoding error found.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the size of the chunked HTTP POST data is specified by using lowercase hexadecimal characters.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.

MORE INFORMATION

Chunked HTTP POST data contains the size of the data in hexadecimal characters. The value of the size element should not be case sensitive. This is defined by the HTTP 1.1 specification. If you implement a custom sink and then specify the hexadecimal value to use lowercase characters, you will receive the RemotingException exception.
