SYMPTOMS

Video files may unexpectedly appear in the all videos category on the Zune device. This issue may occur even though the video matches a category such as music videos.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when the file does not contain the metadata that is used to categorize videos on the Zune device. Categories on the Zune device include movies, music videos, and tv shows.

The Zune device displays the category menu items if files on the device contain the necessary information in the MediaClassPrimaryID and MediaClassSecondaryID metadata fields. If a video file does not have these fields set correctly, the video is not categorized. Instead, the video is displayed in the All Videos category on the device.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. To help provide an optimal experience when you play video files on the Zune device, include metadata in your video files. A variety of programs are available to set metadata attributes in Windows Media content. You can use Windows Media Encoder to set most of these attributes. You cannot set metadata attributes by using the Zune software.

The following tables list the metadata attributes that you can set to categorize video files on the Zune device. For help in editing the metadata of your content, contact the technical support department for the program that you are using.
