SYMPTOMS
When you search for communications items in Windows Vista, the search returns no results. You experience this issue if you use elevated permissions to run Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.
If you do not use elevated permissions to run Outlook 2007, Windows Vista returns communications items in the search results as expected.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because of the security functionality in Windows Vista. This issue occurs because the Outlook process that is running under the impersonated credentials of an administrator cannot communicate successfully with the SearchProtocolHost process that is running under the standard user account credentials.
In this scenario, Outlook sends items to the Windows Vista indexer. However, the MAPI protocol host cannot connect to the shared MAPI session to index the e-mail messages.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, restart Outlook 2007 by using your standard user account credentials. Then, perform the search for communications items in Windows Vista.
