APPLIES TO

  • Zune software

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Zune software on a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition-based computer, you receive the following error message:

Operating System Not Supported

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Zune software supports Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 together with "Rollup Update 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005" but did not detect that this version of Windows was installed.

Additionally, the Zune software does not support previous releases of Windows XP Media Center Edition.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. If you are using Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 but you do not have "Rollup Update 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005" or later installed, install the rollup update. To obtain this software, visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

Note To determine what version of Windows XP Media Center Edition you are running, follow these steps:

    1. Start Media Center.
    2. On the Settings menu, click General.
    3. Scroll down, and then click About Media Center. The version number will be displayed. For more information about how to determine the version of Media Center that you are running, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
