Error message when you run the Exchange ActiveSync Certificate-based Authentication tool in Windows Server 2003: "The security ID Security is Invalid"

Article ID: 927471

Article Last Modified on 11/22/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (32-bit x86)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86)

SYMPTOMS

You run the Exchange ActiveSync Certificate-based Authentication tool (EASAuthUploadXMLtoAD.vbs) to try to upload the customized .xml configuration file to the Active Directory directory service in Microsoft Windows Server 2003. When you do this, you receive the following error message:

"The security ID Security is Invalid"
error code 80070539
Line 250 char 9

This problem occurs when you try to upload to a computer that is running a non-English version of Windows Server 2003.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the .vbs file contains the following hard-coded entry:

Const strDomainUsers = "Authenticated Users"

This entry is not recognized in non-English versions of Windows Server 2003.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must replace the "Authenticated Users" built-in group name in the "Const strDomainUsers" entry by using the corresponding term in the language that you want.

For example, if you are using a Dutch version of Windows Server 2003, modify the entry to appear as follows:

Const strDomainUsers = "Geverifieerde Gebruikers"

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
