256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows registry
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You upgrade a server that is running the Beta 2 Technical Refresh version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to the original release version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. After the upgrade operation, you add a shared folder to a content source. The shared folder contains MIME file types such as .eml and .nsw files. However, crawls of the content source are not completed successfully. When you view the crawl log, you see that SharePoint Server 2007 does not crawl MIME file types.
CAUSE
This issue occurs if the registry incorrectly references the Mimefilter.dll file that is located in the %systemroot%\Syswow64 folder. The registry should reference the Mimefilt.dll file that is located in the %systemroot%\System32 folder.
RESOLUTION
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, modify the registry to reference the correct Mimefilt.dll file. Perform this procedure on each index server in the server farm. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Perform one of the following actions, as appropriate for your situation:
- If you are running SharePoint Server 2007 on an x86-based computer, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5645C8C2-E277-11CF-8FDA-00AA00A14F93}\InprocServer32
- If you are running SharePoint Server 2007 on an x64-based computer, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{5645C8C2-E277-11CF-8FDA-00AA00A14F93}\InprocServer32
- If you are running SharePoint Server 2007 on an x86-based computer, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
- Right-click Default, and then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type %systemroot%\system32\mimefilt.dll.
- Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.
