Article ID: 927079

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Word 2007

SYMPTOMS

You switch to Full Screen Reading mode for a document in Microsoft Office Word 2007. You then press the F10 key or the ALT key. You expect to select a command by using these keys. However, no menu bar items are selected.

Additionally, if you press the DOWN ARROW key or the UP ARROW key, the Microsoft Windows menu appears. You cannot leave this menu unless you press the F10 key or the ALT key.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Full Screen Reading mode display of a Word 2007 document does not support the use of the keyboard to access the document's menu items.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you can press the F6 key to change the focus from the document page to the menu bar when you are in Full Screen Reading mode. This procedure does not work when you view the document in the other viewing modes.
