APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition (32-bit x86)

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter x64 Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition for Itanium-based Systems
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition for Itanium-Based Systems

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • You connect a terminal client to a Windows 2000-based terminal server. The client receives a Windows 2000 client access license (CAL).
  • You then change the computer name of the terminal client.
  • You then connect the terminal client to a Windows Server 2003-based terminal server.

In this scenario, an incorrect name for the client appears in the license server database on the Windows Server 2003-based terminal server. The name that appears in the license server database is the name that the terminal client previously used.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Windows Server 2003 license server does not check for the current name of the client computer. Instead, the license server retrieves the name from the CAL that the client uses.
