INF: Inconsistent Save and Save As Menus with Forms

Article ID: Q92693
Creation Date: 12-NOV-1992
Revision Date: 19-SEP-1996 The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0

SUMMARY

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

If a user has a form open in Design view, the File menu has options for Save and Save As. If a user has a form open in Form view or Datasheet view, the File menu has options for Save Form and Save Form As.

MORE INFORMATION

The different options are available so that the user will be less likely to think that saving the form while in Form view or Datasheet view will save the actual data displayed at that time. While in Design view, no data is displayed, and it is clear that saving the form will not save any data from the form's recordset. In all the cases, only the information which defines the form itself will be saved by choosing either save option from the File menu.

NOTE: This behavior does not occur in Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0. In Microsoft Access 7.0, there is no difference between the File options Save and Save As/Export when the form is open in Form view or Design view.
