You cannot retrieve character formatting information from an e-mail message in Outlook 2007 when you use the Outlook 2007 object model

Article ID: 926817

Article Last Modified on 4/25/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 object model to retrieve font and style information from an Outlook 2007 e-mail message, you cannot retrieve the following character formatting information:

  • Font name
  • Font size
  • Font style
  • Range orientation

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook 2007 e-mail messages are locked to prevent changes unless you edit the messages. Therefore, the Outlook 2007 object model cannot access the font and style information from the e-mail message.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must edit the e-mail message. When you go into edit mode for an e-mail message that has been read, the Outlook 2007 object model can access the font and style information from the message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

If you use the WordEditor.Unprotect command in the Outlook 2007 object model to unprotect the e-mail message, you will be unable to protect the e-mail message. Additionally, you cannot use the WordEditor.Unprotect command on an e-mail message that is formatted in plain text.
