  • Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2006

SYMPTOMS

Synchronization intermittently fails on a computer that is running Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006. The computer also has Undelete Server Edition version 5.0.112 installed. Additionally, the following event is logged in the System log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DPM-EM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2
Description:

The replica of %VolumeName% on %ComputerName% is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. (ID: 3106)
The replica on the DPM server for %VolumeName% on %ComputerName% is inconsistent. Changes cannot be applied to file \RECOVERYBIN\%FilePath%. (ID: 109)
DPM PS ID: %GUID%^|^%ComputerName%^|^Replica is inconsistent^|^DPM Protected^|^Replica^|^D:

When a consistency check runs on the protected volume, the replica becomes consistent and then intermittently fails again. In the description of the Event error, the path of the file will always start with \RECOVERYBIN.

CAUSE

This problem may occur because you installed Undelete Server Edition version 5.0.112 from Diskeeper on the protected server. This version of Undelete Server Edition was released before System Center DPM 2006. Therefore, this version does not recognize the Fsrecord.sys DPM filter driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, contact Diskeeper to verify a later release of Undelete Server Edition that recognizes System Center DPM 2006.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, schedule nightly consistency checks so that the replicas remain consistent. By scheduling nightly consistency checks, you guarantee that synchronization is completed successfully. Then, you can put the replica in a consistent state.
