User policy settings may not be applied after you join Windows Vista to a domain if the Netlogon service has been disabled or set to manual

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade a computer to Windows Vista, and then you join the computer to a domain, the user policy settings may not be applied as expected.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Netlogon service has been disabled or set to manual during or after the upgrade to Windows Vista.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, change the Netlogon service Startup type to Automatic. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, and then click Services.
  2. Double-click Netlogon, and then click Automatic in the Startup type box.
  3. Click OK, and then restart the computer.
