SYMPTOMS
On a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows Vista or of Microsoft Windows XP, you open a smart document solution in Microsoft Office Word 2007. When you do this, you receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the DisableManifestSecurityCheck registry value is in the wrong registry hive on the computer. A 32-bit program must store the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
subkeys under the following registry hive:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node
RESOLUTION
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Start Registry Editor. To do this, use one of the following methods:
- On a computer that is running Windows Vista, click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. - On a computer that is running Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- On a computer that is running Windows Vista, click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
- Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Common
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type Smart Tag, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type DisableManifestSecurityCheck, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify.
- Type 1, and then click OK.
- Exit Registry Editor.
