SYMPTOMS

You may be unable to start the World Wide Web Publishing Service on a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 and has the Patchlink third-party software installed.

Additionally, one of the following error messages may be logged in the Application log:

Description:
The description for Event ID ( 3 ) in Source ( GravitixISAPI ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Patchlink ISAPI Started.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type inetmgr, and then click OK.
  2. Expand ComputerName, right-click Web sites, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the ISAPI Filters tab, select Patchlink.dll, and then click Remove.
  4. Click OK.

Note When you remove the Patchlink.dll file from the ISAPI Filters tab, you disable the Patchlink third-party software. To resolve this problem without disabling the Patchlink third-party software, contact Patchlink customer support.
