SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You have Distributed file system (DFS) installed on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer. On this computer, you try to add a member to a DFS Replication (DFSR) group. The member has a name that resembles the following:
S-String01
Note Here, String is a placeholder that represents a string. An example of an actual member name is "S-Name01."
In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of an error in the DsCrackNames function of the Ntdsapi.dll file. This error causes the DsCrackNames function to interpret the member name as a security identifier (SID). The DsCrackNames function should interpret the member name as a distinguished name.
RESOLUTION
Service pack information
