Direct formatting is not displayed correctly when you paste a table from a Word 2007 document into a second Word 2007 document

Article ID: 924683

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Word 2007

SYMPTOMS

You copy a table from a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document. Then, you paste the table into a second Word 2007 document. When you do this, direct formatting is not displayed correctly in the table in the second document. Direct formatting includes font size, italic, or other formatting that you applied manually and that is not included in the paragraph style.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • The Normal.dot template in the second document has been modified to use one or more of the styles that are in the table that you copied.
  • The Keep Source Formatting option for pasting between documents is enabled in Word 2007.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, reformat the text in the table after you paste the table into the second document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The Normal.dot template file opens when you start Word 2007. The Normal.dot template file includes default styles and customizations that determine the basic appearance of a document.
