SYMPTOMS
On a computer that is running the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, the System.Net.HttpWebRequest class parses the string "//" into "/" in a request Uniform Resource Identifier (URI).
Note This problem does not occur in the .NET Framework 1.1.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.

The System.Net.HttpWebRequest class in the .NET Framework 2.0 may parse the Request-URI to remove or to replace certain characters to follow the HTTP Request for Comments (RFC) guideline. During the parsing, the System.Net.HttpWebRequest class replaces "//" in the Request-URI with "/". However, this change does not comply with HTTP 1.1 RFC.
