An old column name appears instead of the new column name when you rename the column in the data source in Visio 2007

Article ID: 924117

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You link a data source to a shape in a Microsoft Office Visio 2007 drawing. You then add a new item to the data graphic, and then assign the item to a column in the data source. You rename the column in the data source to a new column name, and then update the data in the Visio 2007 drawing.

Note To update the data, click Refresh Data on the Data menu.

In this scenario, the corresponding data field is not displayed in the applied data graphic after you rename the column name. When you edit the data graphic to correct this behavior, the old column name for the item appears instead of the new column name in the Edit Data Graphics dialog box. Additionally, the old column name and the new column name now appear in the Data Field list of the data graphics items in the Edit Data Graphic dialog box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the shape, point to Data, and then click Edit Data Graphic.
  2. In the Data Field drop-down list for the non-displaying item, click the appropriate column name, and then click Apply.

When you do this, the old column name is removed from the Data Field list for all the data graphic items of the applied data graphic.

Note The new column name changes only in the applied data graphic. Repeat this workaround for all other existing data graphics.
