SYMPTOMS

In a document that has a large amount of formatting, positioning, or graphics, when you type new text at the bottom of a page in page layout view (page view in Word 4.0), the new text may not appear until the screen has time to update. Depending on the complexity and size of the document, this may take several seconds or longer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this situation, enter or edit text in normal view (galley view in Word 4.0). To work on your document in normal view, click Normal on the View menu (in Word 4.0, click to clear the the mark check from Page View on the Document menu).

MORE INFORMATION

During the time the screen is updating, the mouse pointer changes to a watch. Attempting to force repagination in the document while the watch is showing will not speed up the updating process. The screen will be updated automatically as quickly as possible.
