Summary:

In Microsoft Word for Windows, using CTRL+F9 to insert a new field toggles the View Field Codes option on and off if you are working in Page View.

To avoid toggling the View Field Codes option you can follow one of these methods:

  • Use Normal, Draft, or Outline View when you insert Field Codes. CTRL+F9 does not toggle the Field Codes on, so only the equation you are working on displays the Field Codes.
  • If you prefer to stay in Page View, from the Insert Menu, choose Field and select the appropriate Field Type from the list.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows version 1.0. This problem was corrected in Word for Windows versions 1.1 and 1.1a.
