SUMMARY

A footnote reference and the actual text of the footnote can be placed on different pages using the following procedure:

  1. Position the insertion point where you want the footnote marker to appear and insert a superscripted character that corresponds to the reference mark of the footnote. This is simply a placeholder. (Do not insert an actual footnote here.)

  2. On the page where you want the text of the footnote to appear, insert a footnote.

  3. Enter the text for the footnote in the footnote window.

  4. Format the footnote marker as hidden text:

    1. Select the marker.

    2. From the Format menu, choose Character and select the Hidden Text check box.

This procedure keeps the footnote on the page where the invisible reference is located, while the manually formatted footnote reference appears on any page you choose. Note that if the footnote is automatically updated by inserting or removing a footnote before it, the manually inserted reference mark will not be updated to reflect this change.
