Replacing a Text String with Contents of the Clipboard

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0 , 3.01, 3.02, 4.0 5.0


In versions 5.0 and earlier of Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, to replace a specified character string with the contents of the Clipboard, do the following:

  1. Select the text that you want to copy to the Clipboard (the text you want to use as the replacement text) and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
  2. In Word 5.0, choose Replace from the Edit menu. In Word 4.0, choose Search from the Utilities menu. In Word 3.x, choose Change from the Search menu.
  3. In the Find What box, type the text string you want to replace.
  4. For Word 5.0, select Clipboard Contents from the Special box under the Replace With box. For Word 3.x and 4.0, type “^c” (without the quotation marks) in the Change To box.
  5. In Word 5.0, choose the Find Next button or the Replace All button. In Word 3.x and 4.0, choose the Start Search button or the Change All button.

Note: Although the contents of the Clipboard can be used to replace information as done in the above procedure, the contents of the Clipboard cannot be specified as search criteria.
