Tasks with Blank Names Are Sorted First

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0 - Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, versions 1.1, 3.0, 4.0

Tasks or Resources with blanks (such as the Name field) will appear first if the field with the blank is chosen as a sort key. This is a standard method of sorting.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Enter a task name for ID = 1.
  2. Enter 2d for ID = 2 (leave name blank).
  3. Enter a resource for ID = 3.
  4. Enter a task name for ID = 4.
  5. Select Format, Sort - Name - ascending - OK.

NOTE: The blank names are sorted above the nonblank names.
