Summary:

There are two ways to save a worksheet or macro sheet so it reopens as a hidden document.

Method 1

  1. From the File menu, choose Open to open the sheet to be hidden.
  2. Edit the sheet in some way but do not resave.
  3. From the Window menu, choose Hide from the menu bar.
  4. Exit Excel. Because you have made changes that have not yet been saved, Excel prompts you for the sheet that is now hidden. The sheet will be saved in the hidden format.

Method 2

  1. From the File menu, choose Open to open the sheet to be hidden.
  2. From the Window menu, choose Hide from the menu bar.
  3. From the File menu, choose Open to open another (blank) worksheet if there is not a minimum of two sheets already open.
  4. From the File menu, choose Save Workspace. Excel prompts you to save each of the files in the workspace (hidden and unhidden).
  5. The workspace (.XLW) file may be deleted; the hidden sheet has been saved as hidden and will not show up when reopened.

More Information:

When a worksheet is hidden, it cannot be the active sheet and, therefore, cannot be saved by choosing Save from the File menu.
