Excel: Vertical Criteria Not Available

Last reviewed: November 29, 1994
Article ID: Q47264

The criteria range in a Microsoft Excel worksheet must be aligned horizontally across the page. The first row should contain the field name(s) from the database, and the second row should contain the data that is being set as criteria for selecting records from the database.

For example, if cell A1 contains the field name "Name", cell A2 should contain the actual name that is being used for the criteria.

For more information, see "Setting Up a Criteria Range" on pages 330-331 of the "Microsoft Excel User's Guide 1," version 4.0. If you are using version 3.0, see pages 371-373 of the "Microsoft Excel User's Guide" version 3.0 manual. If you are using Excel 2.20, see pages 166-168 of the "Microsoft Excel Reference" version 2.2 manual.
