The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0 , 3.01, 3.02, 4.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word version 4.00, if you backspace over a footnote reference mark (exactly, without backspacing past it) and then type, the new text will appear in the default Normal style (stored in the current configuration file) instead of retaining the style for that paragraph.

To avoid manual reformatting, backspace (delete) past the footnote mark (that is, over some text in that paragraph) and then retype the erased characters and begin entering your new text.

This problem was corrected in version 5.0 of Word for the Macintosh.
