If you have some resources with duplicate names, but different initials, selecting the resource from the Task Sheet Resource field pull-down menu (or directly typing the information in) may not allocate the correct resource. For instance, if you have three resources named “resource” (without the quotation marks), but each has unique initials and cost information, the first resource will always be selected when you select the pull-down menu from the list or enter the name in the Resources field.
This is the expected behavior by Microsoft Project for Windows and Macintosh because all the pull-down menu or typing does is enter text that is then searched for. Project stops searching after it finds the first resource that matches the text and uses the resource information attached to the selected resource.
It is always best (though not necessary) to use unique names with each resource to avoid such a problem.
