Most binary files on information services, such as CompuServe and GEnie, have been compressed. Many Macintosh binary files are compressed using StuffIt!, a shareware utility. If a StuffIt! compressed file is double-clicked at the Finder level and StuffIt! is not on the disk, the Finder returns the error message
The file <filename> could not be opened/printed (the application is busy or missing)
where <filename> is the name of the file you are trying to open.
Most binary files on information services such as CompuServe and GEnie have been compressed (or archived) to save time in the uploading and downloading process as well as to conserve disk space. A decompression utility is needed to restore the file to its normal state before it can be opened.
StuffIt! can usually be found in a general or administrative data library on an information service, and does not need to be decompressed when downloaded.
