SUMMARY

When you link data from another file with Word’s Library Link command, no one else will be able to load the linked file and save changes to it until you save the original file that contains the links.

This problem occurs because Word needs to keep the linked file open until you save the file containing the links. When Word saves the file, Word reads the information needed from the linked file, and then releases that file for others to use. Another user can then load the file read-write.

If this problem occurs, the network system administrator can check to see who has the file in question open. That person can then be contacted to save the file he or she is working on, allowing Word to relinquish control of the file.
