Summary:

When drop lines are added to an area chart, the color of the main chart is altered. For example, the default color for an area chart is red. If drop lines are added to the default area chart, the chart color changes from red to green.

Excel Versions 2.x

The color change experienced is by design. The attributes you have added to the basic chart have exactly matched a predefined chart type, except for the color. For efficiency, Excel uses the predefined chart and its color scheme.

You can change the color(s) by doing the following:

  1. Select the series to be changed.
  2. From the Format menu, choose Patterns and choose the desired color(s).

Excel 3.0

Microsoft Excel version 3.0 does not changed the color in an area chart from red to green when adding drop lines.
