SUMMARY

With Microsoft Word version 4.00, all Adobe-standard PostScript fonts use 183 or 249 as the ASCII code for the bullet character with the exception of Symbol, which uses only ASCII 183, and ZapfDingbats, which doesn’t have a bullet character.

The bullet character for these PostScript fonts is a solid circle.

With Word versions 5.00 and 5.50, all Adobe-standard PostScript fonts use 249 as the ASCII code for the bullet character, with the exception of Symbol, which uses 183. The LineDraw and ZapfDingbats fonts don’t have a bullet character available.

To enter bullets in Word, hold down the ALT key and type the corresponding number on the numeric keypad. For example, in Word version 4.00, hold down the ALT key and press 183 on the numeric keypad. (The character that appears on the screen may be different than the character that is printed.)
